Decentralized autonomous organization (DAO)

Despite having a working company, the long-term goal of the Renderhive project is to establish a decentralized governance model in which the members of the network have a democratic, fair, and direct way to participate in the decisions regarding the development of the project. The governance model itself, voting systems, and anything connected to this issue will be established and decided upon in an open discussion within the community.

A form of participation that was established in various distributed ledgers is, for example, the so-called improvement proposal. This type of participation enables anyone to suggest improvements regarding the project in a transparent way and gives the community a basis for discussions. After a sufficient discussion, the core community (i.e., long-term render and client node operators) will have the chance to vote on improvement proposals. If a supermajority agrees, the proposal will be accepted and implemented. Otherwise it will be declined and may be further discussed or discarded completely.

The governance model should ensure a balance between all participants of the network, and it may make sense to distribute the voting power to groups (e.g., 1/3 to developers, 1/3 to render nodes, and 1/3 to client nodes). This splitting might make sense, because the sizes of each group may be significantly different. However, this and the general governance model will need a thorough discussion in the community. Until then, decisions for the development of the network will naturally happen in a more centralized way, but everyone is invited to participate in the discussion about the development directions of this open-source project.

The establishment of a suitable governance model will be discussed within the Renderhive community as soon as a sufficient community size is reached.
